Backlash After Trump Shares Mocking Posts as the Kennedy Family Mourns Tatiana Schlossberg
U.S. President Donald Trump drew criticism on Tuesday evening after reposting a series of mocking messages aimed at the Kennedy family, just hours after they announced the death of Tatiana Schlossberg. Tatiana, the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy, died after battling acute myeloid leukaemia. Her family confirmed the news in a heartfelt social media statement, describing her as “beautiful” and deeply loved.
Despite the family’s public mourning, Trump used Truth Social to amplify posts attacking the Kennedys, continuing a feud that has intensified in recent weeks. The tension escalated after Trump formally renamed Washington, D.C.’s historic Kennedy Center as the Trump-Kennedy Center, a move that prompted strong criticism from members of the Kennedy family. Joe Kennedy III argued that the venue—created as a memorial to JFK after his assassination in 1963—cannot be renamed under federal law.
On Tuesday, Trump reshared posts from supporters accusing the Kennedys of neglecting the Kennedy Center while highlighting Trump’s support for the arts. Although Tatiana was not mentioned directly, many social media users condemned the timing as insensitive given the family’s loss.
The Kennedy family has not publicly responded to Trump’s reposts. Instead, relatives continued sharing tributes honoring Tatiana’s life. Maria Shriver described her as courageous and full of love, praised Caroline Kennedy’s strength, and urged people to cherish life. Throughout, the family’s attention remained on remembrance, unity, and preserving Tatiana’s legacy.
