“RETURN MEDAL IMMEDIATELY”: OLYMPIC STAR STRIPPED OF NEWLY RECEIVED AWARD, REASON “THIS IS NOT ALLOWED” CAUSES ASTOUND 🥇📉 The world of sports is abuzz with the unusual situation where a star who just won glory at the Winter Olympics is asked to return their gold medal immediately. The firm decision from the organizers, declaring “this is not allowed,” has shocked both the athlete and fans. Instead of a competition-related scandal, the incident stems from a serious quality issue with the medals, resulting in numerous medals being damaged right on the podium. This emergency recall is sparking heated debate about organization and a perceived lack of respect for the athletes’ efforts. The truth behind these “flawed” medals is causing a public outcry and demanding a satisfactory explanation.

US women’s figure skating star Alysa Liu had to return one of her gold medals from the Winter Olympics.

Liu, 20, won both the team and individual events in Italy, standing at the top of the podium twice.

But a mishap whilst celebrating meant she had to give one broken medal back.

Liu, who was overcome with emotion after being given her second gold, explained: “I was just jumping up and down, as one does to celebrate, and it just dropped.

“It just literally fell off of the ribbon. It got very scratched up pretty dented.”

Despite picking it up and being a fan of having a different medal, Liu was not allowed to keep it as a unique souvenir.

She continued: “I actually liked it when it was off the ribbon, but that’s not allowed.

“I had to give it in. I was like: ‘Can’t you just fix this one? I’m attached.’

“But it’s ok, I’m detached. Just like it was.”

Liu became a big attraction at the skating with flary outfits including her (appropriate) sparkly gold one for the individual performance.

At the end of her 226.79-worthy effort, Liu bowed and went up to the camera before shouting: “That’s what I’m f***ing talking about!”

She went on to say in an interview: “My family is out there, my friends are out there.

“I had to put on a show for them.

“When I see other people smiling, because I see them in the audience, I have to smile, too. I have no poker face.”

Liu was the first American to win the individual event in over 20 years.

That is all the more remarkable after she retired from the sport as a teen.

Liu competed at the Beijing games in 2022 but finished sixth.

As a youngster, that hit her hard and saw her hang up the skates.

In 2024 she opened up on the decision, saying: “I was so into skating that I really didn’t do much else.

“Skating takes up your whole life, almost.

“I don’t know if other people kind of feel the same when they look back at certain parts of their life.

“But for me, it’s definitely a blur, because it kind of meshes together, you know – going to the rink, going home, competing.”

She spent two years away and got back to action before completing a remarkable turnaround at Milan-Cortina.

USA finished with 12 golds and 33 medals overall - behind only Norway on both counts
Liu helped Team US come second overall Liu’s historic victory in Milan-Cortina has solidified her status as a figure skating icon, but it is her candid personality that has truly captured the public’s imagination. Beyond the viral “broken medal” incident, her triumph represents the successful evolution of a skater who prioritizes mental clarity and joy over the rigid, often soul-crushing expectations of the sport’s traditional path. By stepping away in 2022 and returning on her own terms, Liu has proven that a hiatus can be a catalyst for greatness rather than a career-ender. As she prepares for the post-Olympic tour, the 20-year-old remains a breath of fresh air in a highly disciplined world, reminding fans and fellow athletes alike that while medals can be replaced and ribbons can break, the authenticity of a hard-won comeback is indestructible.
